Melodichthys Nielsen and Cohen, 1986
Short body with bulky head. Dorsal and anal fins separate from caudal which places the genus in the subfamily Brosmophycinae. It differs from all other genera by the high number of developed gill rakers.
Bottomfish at depths from 165-400 meters. Viviparous.
