Genus Microichthys

Microichthys Rüppell, 1852

Very small fishes. Body compressed, head large, opercle with a spine. Mouth oblique, lower jaw prominent; teeth minute. Caudal fin bilobate. Lateral line complete. Scales ctenoid, chromatophores forming about 20 transverse black lines on sides.
Pelagic (meso-?). Feeding on small crustaceans. Eggs pelagic.

Note. These fishes are very rarely caught. Their morphology and biology are still poorly known.
