Melanocetidae

Distinct from other ceratioids in having more than 11 dorsal and less than 6 anal finrays. Females without filaments on bulb of esca. Males non-parasitic, with spinulose skin, denticular teeth on upper jaw in 2-3 transverse series and a median series on snout, all fused at base; denticular teeth on lower jaw in a median and 2 lateral groups fused at base.
