Himantolophidae

Females distinct from other ceratioids in having skin with some large bony plates,each bearing a median spine. D 5-6; A 4-5. Males non-parasitic, with spinulose skin; denticular teeth on upper and lower jaw in 2-4 transverse series fused at base; no median series on snout.
