Genus Phrynichthys

Phrynichthys Pietschmann, 1926

Distinct from the other genus of the family, Diceratias, in having illicial length greater than 80% SL and distance from insertion of illicium to tip of snout greater than 30% SL. Largest record 178 mm. Two species, one represented in Clofnam area, the other based on two specimens from the Halmahera and Ceram seas, western tropical Pacific.
