Diceratiidae

Females distinct from other ceratioids (except juvenile Ceratiidae) in having a photophore on second cephalic finray, external and clubshaped in juveniles, except for a pore covered by skin of head in older specimens. D 5-7; A 4. Skin spines present, minute in Phrynichthys. Males unknown.
