Genus Centrophryne

Centrophryne Regan and Trewavas, 1932

In addition to a combination of osteological characters, females differ from other ceratioids in the following: skin densely covered with small spines, jaws equal anteriorly, no caruncles on back, no sphenotic spines and a caudal peduncle of less than 20% SL. Males and juvenile females are unique among ceratioids in having a simple papilliform hyoid barbel.
