Genus Sphagemacrurus

Sphagemacrurus Fowler, 1925

Head and trunk moderately deep, tapering to slender tail; snout bluntly acute, its tip with spinous scute, underside naked or nearly naked mouth subterminal; chin barbel present; small pointed teeth present in a band in both jaws. Pelvic fin base in front of pectoral fin base; second finray of first dorsal fin serrated. Scales with spinules in parallel or diverging rows. Anus in a subcircular scaleless area of black skin.
