Genus Theragra

Theragra Lucas, 1898

Lower jaw projecting beyond upper one. A barbel on chin, minute. Sub-operculum and post-cleithrum swollen and ivory-like. Sensory canals with large pores on head. Coronal fossa on frontals closed in front of commissure between supra-orbital canals. First anal fin short, its base less than one-half of preanal distance and its origin in front of second dorsal fin. Lateral line not continuous behind origin of second dorsal fin base.

Habitat: midwater fish. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: south-western Barents Sea off Finmark.
