Genus Nansenia

Nansenia Jordan and Evermann, 1896

Body fairly elongate, mouth small, eye large. Dorsal fin at about midpoint of body; adipose dorsal fin present; pectoral fins inserted on side of body, not low down, pelvic fins below dorsal fin base. Lateral line scales larger than others and extending on to caudal fin.
Mesopelagic, down to 1,000 m, caught singly or in small aggregations. Probably feeding on zooplankton.
