Genus Bathylaco

Bathylaco Goode and Bean, 1896

Body fairly slender. Head moderate; upper margin of gill cover oblique; eye far forward; upper jaw long, reaching beyond midpoint of head; teeth present in lower jaw. Pyloric caeca 5-12. Dorsal fin longer than anal fin, and its origin well in advance of the latter, with 17-22 finrays, pectoral fins low on body, with 4-11 finrays, pelvic finrays 6-9 (plus a splint bone), anal finrays 10-17.
Bathypelagic, specimens from nets towed at 450-4,376 m.
