Genus Exocoetus

Exocoetus Linnaeus, 1758

Body elongate, thick, somewhat flattened ventrally. Pectoral branch of lateral line absent. Upper jaw not protrusible. Number of dorsal and anal rays sub-equal; dorsal fin low, anterior rays the longest; pectoral fins strikingly long, reaching to caudal base; pelvic fins short, far from reaching anal fin origin, their insertion closer to pectoral fin insertion than to anal fin origin.
