Genus Negaprion

Negaprion Whitley, 1939

Large stout sharks (3 4 m TL) with depressed head and rounded snout. Pre-oral length short, half to two-thirds mouth width. Teeth in both jaws similar, symmetrical anteriorly, increasingly oblique posteriorly; narrowbased cusps smooth, bases smooth to serrate. Spiracle usually absent. Broad triangular pectoral fins; midpoint of first dorsal fin base equidistant or up to 1 1/2 times further from pectoral insertion than from origin of pelvics; first dorsal fin base approximately equal to fin height; inter-dorsal ridge absent; second dorsal fin nearly as large as first, similar in shape; anal fin slightly smaller than second dorsal fin, its posterior margin concave; pre-caudal pits present above and below.
