Accepted name: Eutelichthys leptochirus Tortonese, 1959 (updated 2009-06-25)

Diagnosis: horizontal diameter of eye about 26% of head length. Dorsal finrays 46-74, anal finrays 45-46. Lower pectoral fin lobe rays 2-3, not developed into a free lobe, equal to about 20% of head length, distinctly separated from upper fin lobe rays by a wide interspace with rudimentary rays. Size: to about 51 mm SL.

Habitat: benthopelagic or pelagic, at depths from 500 to 700 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: periodicity unknown; fecundity may be 35-40 eggs of about 2 mm diameter.

Distribution: apparently occurring peripherally at bathyal depths around the western basin of the Mediterranean.
