Diagnosis: body broad and rounded anteriorly. Head about 2.1 times in SL; disc 2.7 times in SL, less than head length. Gill-slit small, located entirely above pectoral fin base. First dorsal fin with 7 spines, not forming a crest; fin covered by thick, fleshy skin, generally rectangular in lateral view; all spines visible; second dorsal fin with about 11 rays.
Bony tubercles few, present on anterior part of body only, not on head, tail or fins; tubercles blunt, with many minute spinules; about 5 tubercles present on each side of body, a few buried in skin. Colour: in life, no data. Size: 46 mm SL (the longest of the three reported specimens).
Habitat: benthic on mud bottoms at least at 174 m. Food: unknown. Reproduction: eggs about 5 mm diameter, laid in a clutch of 60-70. Eggs apparently laid in shells or protected areas: paternal care possible.'
Distribution: generally unknown. In the Clofnam area, known from two specimens in the Barents Sea; probably occurring throughout that region in similar habitats. One other specimen known, from northwestern Greenland.
