Diagnosis: see genus. No posterior oculoscapular canal. D VI; D2 I + 10 11; A I + 9-10; P 15-19. Scales in lateral series 26-32. Colour: little data; first dorsal fin with large black spot at base. Size: to 3.7 cm.

Habitat: 110-115 m, rocky ground. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: eastern Atlantic (Agadir, Morocco) and western Medi-terranean (at type locality: Ilot de Dragonera, Majorca, Balearic Is.). Also from Canaries (P. J. Miller); V. dollfusi (D2 I + 10, A I + 9), from Agadir, may be distinct.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
