Diagnosis: see genus. Dl VI (V-VI); D2 I + 10-11; A I + 9-10; P 14-16. Scales in lateral series 28-32. Vertebrae 27 or 28. Colour: reddish- to pale grey-brown, with 9-11 dark brown vertical bands, more evident in smaller fish. Size: to 4.35 cm.
Habitat: inshore shallows and lagoons to 4 m, among and under stones. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: Mediterranean (Adriatic and Levant Seas). Recently found in western basin (Alicante, A. Ramos) and the Aegean (P. Economidis).
