Diagnosis: lateral line system with anterior dorsal rows g and h distinct, and row b reaching edge of preopercle. Nape naked. Dl VI; D2 I + 13-14; A I + 13-14; P 17-20. Scales in lateral series 26-28. Vertebrae 27. Colour: head and body with yellow and bluish bands. Size: to at least 5 cm.

Habitat: inshore, but young to 230 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: summer and autumn (Mediterranean).

Distribution: eastern Atlantic (Morocco and Canaries); Mediterranean.
