Diagnosis: lateral line system with sub-orbital row d continuous, row x1 ending anteriorly behind pore b and pore a behind eye on course of oculoscapular canal. Nape and cheek naked. Anterior nostril with triangular lappet. First dorsal rays elongate. Pectoral free rays moderately developed. Pelvic disc oblong, anterior membrane without conspicuous lateral lobes. Dl VI; D2 I + 12; A I + 11. Scales in lateral series 33-34. Colour: in life unknown, but no dark blotches in upper anterior corners of dorsal fins. Size: to 8 cm.

Habitat: inshore in Mediterranean but deeper water record off Portugal in 320-385 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: eastern Atlantic (off south-west Portugal); Mediterranean (Balearic Is. and Sardinia).

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
