Diagnosis: Iateral line system with sub-orbital row d in two parts, row x1 ending anteriorly behind pore b, and pore a on short side-branch from oculoscapular canal along lower edge of orbit. Nape scaled, cheek naked. Anterior nostril with bifid tentacle. Pectoral free rays well developed. Pelvic disc rounded; anterior membrane without prominent lateral lobes. DI Vl; D2 I + 12-14; A I + 11; P 18 (18-19). Scales in laleral series 38-40. Vertebrae 28. Colour: brown with darker pectoral lobe; first dorsal fin with narrow pale upper edge. Size: to 7.1 cm.

Habitat: inshore and in lagoons, among sea grass. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: Mediterranean, western (Balearic Is., and Gulf of Lions to Nice) and eastern basins (Peloponnesus (Palaea Epidavros) (H.Bath)). Also recorded from Sardinia (Tortonese and Chessa, 1982).
