Diagnosis: dorsal finrays XII + 15; anal finrays II + 17; pectoral finrays 14; pelvic finrays I + 4. Body stout. Tubercle-like projections on nape; supra-orbital tentacles manifold branched. Lateral line with tubes anteriorly. Colour: head marbled, body brownish with 5 vertical dark bars. Size: to about 8 cm.

Habitat: at shallow depths, near harbours. Food: no data. Reproduction: No data.

Distribution: Mediterranean at Naples, Palermo, Algiers and Israel. Elsewhere, off Congo.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
