Diagnosis (females): Escal bulb without membranous anterior crest; distal escal appendage with compressed, transverse, fan-shaped structure, bearing three bony hooks along posterior margin; distal prolongation of distal appendage absent; posterior escal appendage cylindrical, tapering to a point. Other characters as for genus and family. Holotype 27.5 mm

Distribution: known from four specimens collected on both sides of the North Atlantic and a fifth specimen from off Oahu, Hawaiian Islands; in Clofnam area a single record from off Madeira taken from the stomach of Aphanopus carbo.
