Diagnosis: esca of females with a stout, internally pigmented appendage, as long as or slightly longer than escal bulb, with short filaments; medial groups of filaments posteriorly paired; posterior appendage with short filament near tip; usually unbranched tapering filament on each side of escal bulb.

Distribution: Atlantic Ocean; inside Clofnam area a single record from off Madeira and one from the Irminger Sea.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. One specimen, 10.5 mm, UMML n. 454; one, 13 mm, UMML n. 30269; one, 16 mm, BMNH n. 1932.5.3.11.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
