Diagnosis: orbit 4.6-6.1 in head length. Posterior nostril somewhat ahead of eye. Second dorsal finrays 54-58; anal finrays 49-53. Lateralis system on head with pit organs but no pores. Pyloric caeca 15-17. Size: to 81 cm SL.
Habitat: benthopelagic. Known from 20 specimens, 17 of which were caught singly. Food: no data. Reproduction. no data.
Distribution: Madeira, the Azores and west coast of Iberian peninsula.
Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
