Diagnosis: chin barbel present. First dorsal fin with several notably elongate rays; second dorsal finrays 60-61; anal finrays 59-61; pectoral finrays 24-25. Oblique scale rows between lateral line and first dorsal about 9. Colour: oral cavity pale; dark blotch on first dorsal fin. Size: to about 17 cm SL.

Habitat: benthopelagic on the continental slope. Food: shrimps on Great Meteor Bank. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: Madeira and Great Meteor Bank. Listed from the Sahara, Senegal, and Guinea regions of the West African coast; however, these coastal records have not been verified
