Diagnosis: a small three-bearded rockling, the head broad and rounded in cross-section. Second dorsal finrays 53-57; anal finrays 45-49. Vertebrae 47-49. Colour: back and upper flank with dark brown, sometimes reddish, blotches, as also on second dorsal fin; lower flank and belly creamy grey. Size: to 26 cm SL.
Habitat: intertidal pools and sublittorally to 5-10 m. Food: decapod crustaceans and algae. Reproduction: probably spawns in July-August, young stages unknown.
Distribution: known only from Madeira, the Azores and the Canaries.
