Diagnosis: disc laminae 25-28, disc length 47-59% SL; total number of gillrakers 17-20; dorsal finrays 23-26; anal finrays 24-26; pectoral finrays 22-24; head 26-28% SL; jaws armed with numerous, large, stout canine teeth; palatine and lingual patches absent. Colour: head, trunk and fins almost uniform brown, dark brown or greyish-brown. Size: largest specimen examined 403 mm SL.

Habitat: very little known; apparently in open seas; hosts, cetaceans.
Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: doubtful in Mediterranean, but probably widely distributed in all warm seas; rarest member of family.
