Diagnosis: see genus. Size: to about 16 cm.

Habitat: taken from 500 to 600 m off Hawaii. Apparently not a diurnal vertical migrator. Food: no data. Reproduction: pelagic eggs and larvae.

Distribution: known only from Madeira (tuna stomach) in the area. Probably circumtropical.
