Diagnosis: head moderately large, about one- third of body; snout pointed, eye large, greater than snout; upper jaw reaching to front half of eye. Dorsal and anal fins far back, more or less equal and opposite to each other or dorsal origin slightly in advance; pectoral finrays not filamentous, total 15-16. Colour: brownish. Size: to at least 15 cm.
Habitat: engybenthic at 455-1,460 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: females with eggs up to 2 mm in diameter have been caught in October and November
Distribution: off Morocco. Elsewhere, to 9° 35' S; also western North Atlantic, south- eastern Pacific and Indian Ocean.
