Diagnosis: body very elongate, eel-like. Snout blunt, eye larger than snout, about one-third of head; upper jaw short, reaching just beyond front border of eye; mouth inferior. Dorsal fin moderate, beginning a little behind midpoint of body, shorter than anal fin, with 27-33 finrays; anal fin beginning just behind pelvic fins, much in front of dorsal fin origin, with 42-47 finrays; caudal fin with numerous procurrent finrays, as long as dorsal and anal finrays, reaching forward on body almost to ends of dorsal and anal fins. Vertebrae (pre-ural) 63-69. No scales on body. Colour: blackish. Size: to 21 cm.
Habitat: engybenthic at 950-2,300 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: Azores only. Elsewhere, eastern Pacific.
