Diognosis: body deep, rounded, but somewhat compressed posteriorly, its depth about four times in its length, head moderate. Premaxillae forming a sharp plate-like 'visor'; upper gillrakers less than 3; branchiostegal rays 5. Pyloric caeca 8-9. Dorsal fin far back on body, its origin well behind anal fin origin: anal fin much longer than dorsal fin, with 31-33 finrays. Colour: blackish. Size: to at least 34 cm.
Habitat: engybenthic at 2,150-2,300 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: a single known specimen, from off Morocco (the type).
