Cyclopteropsis Soldatov and Popov, 1929
Body subglobular, somewhat laterally compressed, especially tail. First dorsal fin may or may not be covered by thick skin, but still clearly discernible. Only a few poorly developed tubercles present, represented by bony plates, conical tubercles or dermal 'warts' on anterior part of body only. Sucking disc large, always greater than two-thirds head length. Anus closer to posterior margin of disc than to anal fin origin. Pyloric caeca present 9-10. Vertebrae 25-26.

Note. Lindberg and Legeza (1955) discussed a number of unidentified Cyclopteropsis specimens from the Clofnam area and suggested several possible identifications other than C. macalpini.
