Taurulus Gratzianov, 1907
Body naked. Head with bony granulations, occipital process well developed as an acute spine, post-ocular protuberance absent, sensory canals very long, branched, with supplementary pores. Gill membranes broadly joined to isthmus, not forming a fold across it; no slit behind fourth gill arch. Pelvic finrays I + 3. Lateral line with 29-33 pores, anterior scales with a few sharp, bony denticles. Males with a small urogenital papilla. Vertebrae 29-30.
Tide-pool and inshore fishes. Feed on small benthic invertebrates. Spawn in early spring. No commercial value.
