Basihyal short, teeth on tongue present over basihyal and first two basibranchials. Dorsal finrays 7-9, anal finrays 18-29, pectoral finrays 18-22; pelvic fin insertion beneath or behind middle of dorsal fin base. Lateral line scales 40-52. Vertebrae 40-51. Luminous tissue presumably absent. Pigment present as two distinct and subequal stripes abo and below lateral line and extending forward from caudal peduncle.
Larvae with three peritoneal pigment sections, the posterior pair sections appearing well behind pelvic fin bases; also, lacking accessa pigment spots or areas. Metamorphosis gradual, occurring over a range of about 20-60 mm SL.
Species 4; in Clofnam area 1, probably 2.
