Scophthalmus Rafinesque, 1810
Except for the lack of bony tubercles this genus can only be separated from Psetta Swainson, 1839 on the basis of the thinner and more slender body.
Living on sandy bottoms on the shallow part of the continental shelf; scarce in brackish water. Feeding mainly on bottom-fish and crustaceans. Reproduction between March and August.
