Genus Lepidorhombus

Lepidorhombus Gunther, 1862

Body rather elongate. Dorsal fin origin closer to tip of snout than to anterior edge of eye. Dorsal and anal fins terminate just a little on the blind side of the caudal peduncle (in Phrynorhombus and Zeugopterus they form a large lobe on the blind side). Lateral line forms a distinct curve above pectoral fin. Caught at several hundred metres on soft bottoms; occasionally they are pelagic. Feed mainly on fish, but also squids and crustaceans. Reproduction between March and June.
