Symphurus Rafinesque, 1810

Snout not hooked, mouth terminal; needle-like teeth present on both sides of jaws (except premaxilla on eyed side smooth), a long and narrow band on dentary. Pectoral fin rudimentary; pelvic fin free from anal fin. Lateral line absent.
