Genus Barathrites

Barathrites Zugmayer, 1911

Rather elongate body. Length of head about three in preanal length Small eyes. A short, sharp, opercular spine. A small median basibranchial tooth patch. Anterior gill arch with 5-7 developed rakers. Pelvic fins with 2 rays in each; pectoral fin not nearly reaching anal fin.
Occurs on or near bottom at bathyal and abyssal depths. Oviparous.
