Body cylindrical or a little oval, head broad, a little rounded between the eyes. Adipose eyelid rudimentary or developed; upper lip thin, without papillae; hind tip of maxilla curved down and visible when mouth closed. Anal fin with 9 soft finrays; pectoral axillary scale present or absent.
