Howella Ogilby, 1899 (incertae sedis)

Opercle with 2 spines on the upper angle; sub-opercle with a long spine which may be accompanied by 1-3 shorter spines above and below; preopercular crest with short spinelets scarcely surpassing its margin. Vomer and palatines with or without teeth. Pectoral fins long; caudal fin forked. Lateral line interrupted. Size small.
Pelagic or bathypelagic.
