Genus Vanneaugobius

Vanneaugobius Brownell, 1978

Type-species: Vanneaugobius dollfusi Brownell, 1978.

Sub-orbital papillae in 6 transverse rows, plus papilla near pore a, 4 before, none below longitudinal row b. No row a. Anterior oculoscapular and preopercular head canal present. Predorsal area and head naked. Anterior nostril tubular, without process from rim. Pectoral fin uppermost rays not free from membrane. Pelvic fins separate, although inner (fifth) branched rays connected by low membrane between bases. First dorsal rays VI. Scales in lateral series 26-32, ctenoid, with uppermost and lowermost scales on base of caudal fin with elongate lateral and median ctenii (may be lost after capture).
At least 2 species, cryptobenthic, the type and a second to be described from the Canaries by J. Van Tassell and P. J. Miller, with posterior oculoscapular canal.
