Sub-orbital papillae row a around posterior lower edge of orbit; rows a and c. including cp, without transverse proliferation. Anterior and posterior oculoscapular. and preopercular head canals present, all expanded, with numerous extra pores; anterior oculoscapular canal extends on to snout. Predorsal area and nape scaled. Anterior nostril a short tube lacking process from rim. First dorsal rays VI; first dorsal fin with elongate second ray. Pectoral fin uppermost rays within membrane. Pelvic disc complete. Vertebrae 33. Scales ctenoid, 33-35 in lateral series.
Small epibenthic species of the Mediterranean and adjacent eastern Atlantic, common on finer deposits.
