Genus Cataetyx

Cataetyx Gunther, 1887

Rather elongate body. Opercular spine strong. Vomerine teeth in a
triangular patch. Anterior gill arch with 3 developed rakers. Pelvic fins with 1 ray in each. Caudal fin joined to dorsal and anal fins. Scales present on head.
In all tropical and temperate seas from the continental shelf to abyssal depths. Viviparous.
