Head and body strongly depressed. Gill openings extending below and behind pectoral fin base. Dorsal finrays Vl + 9 12, anal finrays 8-10 pectoral finrays 19-28. Vertebrae 26-31. Benthic, from shoreline to 760 m. Spawning period February-September. Egg-masses in form of long gelatinous veil or ribbon, approximate dimensions 10 m x 200 mm x 3 mm.
