Diagnosis: pelvic fins narrowly attached to abdomen; dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins short, the rays reduced; dorsal finrays 18-23; anal finrays18-24; pectoral finrays 18-21; disc short and wide, laminae 13-14; disc length 3~40 and width 22-26% SL; dentition specialized, many large, stout canine teeth set in large patches in broad jaws. Vertebrae 12 + 14.
Colour: head, body and fins light brown, light tan, light grey to whitish.
Size: largest specimen examined 225 mm SL.

Habitat: in warm, open seas, most often attached to mantas. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: in the south-western part of the area. Elsewhere, worldwide.
