Argentina Linnaeus, 1758
Body elongate, head moderate, mouth small; front tips of maxillae separated in the midline by at least half the width of the underlying mesethmoid (Fig. 1). Tongue with strong, recurved teeth on front and sides (Fig. 2); a continuous band of close-spaced teeth on vomer and palatines, close to front edge of vomer (Fig. 3). Pectoral fins low down on body, nearer to belly profile than to lateral line; lateral line scales not reaching on to caudal fin.
