Genus Ariosoma

Ariosoma Swainson, 1838

Body elongate, scaleless; mouth moderately large, the rictus at level of anterior edge or centre of eve: labial flange not well developed. In both jaws several series of conical teeth in bands. Gill openings lateral, their upper edge opposite midpoint of pectoral fin base. Dorsal and anal fins confluent with caudal fin, their rays unsegmented; pelvic fins absent.
