Prionace Cantor, 1849
Large slender sharks (3-5 m TL), with distinctive bright blue on back. Head and snout conical. Teeth broad cusped, serrate, uppers oblique with concave posterior margin, lowers more slender cusped, variably serrated, and more erect. Short gillraker papillae on gill arches. Pectoral fins long (20-25% TL), falcate and slender; midpoint of first dorsal fin nearer to origin of pelvics than to axil of pectorals; second dorsal fin and anal fin approximately equal in size; anal fin origin before second dorsal fin origin; no inter-dorsal ridge; weak lateral keels on caudal peduncle; pre-caudal pits present above and below; relatively slender upper caudal lobe.
