Genus Galeocerdo

Galeocerdo Muller and Henle, 1837

Large sharks (5-7 m TL), heavy bodied anteriorly, tail slender. Head flattened and broad; snout bluntly rounded and short, pre-oral length less than mouth width; short nasal flaps apparent. Teeth alike in both jaws, large, with coarse serrations, oblique cusps, posterior edge with deeply notched cusplets. Upper labial furrow equal to pre-oral length. Spiracle present but small. Pectorals broad, posterior margin concave; first dorsal fin origin above pectoral free tip; inter-dorsal ridge present; second dorsal fin free tip long and tenuate; anal fin anterior margin broadly rounded, tip curved posteriorly, posterior margin deeply concave. Caudal peduncle slender, with well-developed lateral keels; pre-caudal pits present above and below; upper caudal fin lobe long (30% TL), rounded behind sub-terminal notch.
