Tetrapturus albidus Poey, 1860, Mem. Hist. nat. Cuba, 2: 237-244, 258-260, pl. XV (fig. 1), pl. XVI (fig. 2-13), pl. XVII (fig. 1, 5, 6-9, 10-11, 26) (original description; type locality: coast of Cuba). Type specimen: a male 2150 mm long.
Tetrapturus belone: Sassi, 1846, (2) 6: 391 (from Genoa; not belone Rafinesque, but lessonae, according to Canestrini, 1861).
Tetrapturus lessonae Canestrini, 1861, Arch. zool. Anat. Fisiol., Genoa, 1(1): 259-261, pl. XVII (type locality: Ligurian Sea). Type specimen: a mount in the Museo di Storia Naturale di Genova.
Tetrapturus imperator: Jordan and Evermann, 1896, 47 (1): 892, considered as a junior synonym of T. imperator Bloch and Schneider, 1801, which, however, is based upon Xiphias gladius Linnaeus, 1758.

Tetrapturus georgii: Tortonese, 1940, 98, ser. 3 (115): 3, 5-6 (based on a mounted specimen in MZUT no. 784: not georgii Lowe, 1840, but T. albidus Poey, 1860).
Lamontella albida: Smith, 1956, (2): 32.
